Ross Douthat to replace Kristol

The NYT announces that Ross Douthat of the Atlantic will write a column for the paper, replacing Bill Kristol.

There will be criticism from many on my side that the Times had no good reason to hire on another conservative voice but I actually wouldn’t agree with that view.  Douthat is a smart, thoughtful and careful conservative.  Kristol was/is a propagandist but Douthat is not.  I think it’s a very good hire and I think our discourse will be enriched by it.

His blog at The Atlantic is here

Update But on the other hand, here’s Dougj from Balloon Juice who ain’t agreeing
